"STRONGMAD LOVE BLUE LASER" - Get it? It's a Home Star reference... "HOOOMMSAAARRR" Nevermind - buy this freakin' mouse cuz it rocks.

Microsoft blasted its mice into the next level yesterday with its BlueTrack laser tech, and one of the first out of the gate is this seven-button SideWinder X8 gaming mouse. Gamers will be skeptical of its wireless nature, fantasizing that their reflexes are faster than the X8’s 13,000 frames per second, 75g maximum acceleration, 120 inches-per-second maximum speed and 2.4GHz transmitter, but they may like the way it can last through 30 hours of nonstop gaming before it needs a charge. This oughta beat its predecessor handily.

That “4000″ festooned on its side boasts of the SideWinder X8’s impressive-sounding 4000dpi resolution, getting well into the spec-derby range and far beyond anything meaningful. Maybe numbers like that can help to justify its $99.95 price, or convince hard-core gamers to wait until February for its release.

This looks a lot better than the flip flops I have with the bottle opener in the bottom.

If you’re going to carry around a USB thumb drive that has a bunch of data on it, you might as well choose one that offers more in terms of functionality than mere data storage. After all, with so many brands out there putting out thumb drives and with the cost of storage dropping so low, you need to look beyond simple aesthetics.

The TrekStor USB thumb drive doubles as a bottle opener. Yep, it can store between 1GB and 16GB of data, and it can open up your frosty brews as well. Make it your keychain and you’ll always have whatever data you want with you, be it documents or media files, and you’ll never be searching for a bottle opener again. It makes regular old thumb drives look downright featureless in comparison.

It’s not available in the US yet, but hopefully it won’t be long.

It’s got the same external DVD drive setup, but the battery life is spectacular (if it’s even 3/4 as good as the 10 hours they claim). It’s got a built in HDMI connector, bluetooth, built-in wi-fi, and a 128GB solid state “hard” drive. All that, and it weighs less than the Mac Air too.

I’m still not convinced of the benefit of making these laptops so slim – it’s much less of a pain in the butt to have the drive built in – I can deal with .25 inches if I don’t have to lug around additional accessories. But, would I take one – you bet I would.

Now you can. These slick little digital folders, available in 3 colors, would be a great gadget for any true geek.

If you’re ever looking for a way to show off your individuality in the workplace, you could always redecorate your cubical in some sort of tropical theme. If you’re not that outgoing, there’s always the option of buying a fancy USB flash drive. These Folderix drives will definitely turn a head or two.

These sleek folder-themed drives come to us from the Art. Lebedev Studio, which is most noted for their extremely expensive (and awesome) Optimus Maximus keyboard. Sure, these drives aren’t as cool as a keyboard with tiny LCD screens, but they’re still not too hard on the eyes. They’re a bit pricey though, as a 4GB model will run you $55.

And trust me - I know a bit out stuff being packed in your backpack...

It may not be the most glamorous briefcase I’ve ever seen but the new Checkpoint Flyer Briefcase by Tom Bihn has one very important feature, it can slide through airport checkpoints with your Mac safely inside a sleeve, saving you the awkward fumble of taking out your computer, putting it into a bin and sending it through the chute unprotected along with umpteen other Apple computers.

The durable bag is made of ballistic nylon with YKK Uretek zippers, Duraflex Stealth buckles, and Poron foam-padded handles in Tom Bihn’s Seattle factory. It’s pretty travel friendly with 11 organizational pockets, a back pocket that zips open to accommodate the handle of a roll-aboard, a quick-access boarding pass/map pocket and a folded foam laptop compartment that completely encases the laptop in 8mm-thick closed cell foam, available in three sizes designed specifically to fit Apple laptops (yes, it fits PCs too). They say it requires less than 3 seconds to be prepared in order to send the briefcase through the x-ray machine. It is available for pre-order through Tom Bihn and ships by late September. It sells for $220.
